Work work work

I resigned from my position at work yesterday in order to stay home and care for our baby. It has always been a goal of mine to stay home and I feel very lucky to be able to do it. My sweet husband has prepared himself since he entered school to be able to provide for his family and enable his wife (lucky me!) to stay home with our children. I'm so very thankful for him!

That said, it was harder to turn in my badge than I thought it would be. I found myself feeling a little blue and even a bit unmotivated yesterday. It's easy to lose sight of the work I'm doing at home when my daily to-do list only includes housework (today is vacuum day...). I suppose things will just get busier as Ben grows and as we add more children to our family, but for now I'm looking for things to occupy my mind. Any tips from the other moms out there?

Of course, it's hard to feel bad when I get to look at this face every day!

Hobbies are always great. Joining play groups for babies, or story times at the library. There are always things in the community to do that help you meet other moms with babies. Getting a mommy network is important.

my first year with Easton was probably the worst year. not to scare you or anything. Yes, i loved being a mommy but my mind was not occupied like i needed it to be! we had just moved here so I knew no one. i did some family history work on this thing called "Family Search Indexing" that was really cool. I watched a lot of Foodnetwork and I did a lot of projects. After his first year when he was more mobile and had fun at the park things got a lot better. What also helped is that I had friends! I would imagine you have plenty (call me any time!!). now life is crazy! Enjoy it!!!

Find some hobbies. Start a new crochet project, read a series of books, Family Search Indexing would be a wonderful thing - and you'd feel that you were doing some good for others on top of it. You could check out New.familysearch.com and get signed up and learn a bit there. Write stories, experiment with GF baking . . . I'm sure you'll find some great things to do - and then they'll give you a really busy church calling.

I started story time at the Library when Jackson was only a few months old--at that point it was more for me than for him! :) Play groups, story time and book clubs have been my salvation. I also try to volunteer. When the kids were really small, I taught ESL at the library--switching off babysitting with a friend. Now I work at the school with Jackson's class. I also try to get up early and do a few things for myself (scriptures, workout and shower) I can pretty much handle anything for the rest of the day.

For me, having my daily devotional of prayer and scripture study is of utmost importance. If I take just a few minutes for myself to refocus my energies, I can make it through the day much happier. Get outside whenever you can--go to the park, or even just hang out in your cute little backyard. It can be hard sometimes to be in a really time consuming project with a baby, because you have to keep stopping. Books are good to read, or watch the news. Also, putting some fun things on your to-do list can make you feel productive, as well as help you enjoy the time (things like "blog!" or "make GF carrot cake"). There is always calling your little sister, too....

Volunteer at the CPD at USU to help create new questions and games for our online trivia fundraising game. You can read more about it by going to the volunteer section of our website (http://cpdusu.org) or playing the game at (http://cpdplayforgood.org). We need about 200 new questions generated every month.

Wow, this is a lot of good advise! Books. Books on CD to keep your hands free when you want to read but can't. Reach out. Call someone, like me! I echo Lisa in that it is so important to get the day started off right. Read the scriptures and pray. It will give you the boost you want and need. Read a magazine or surf the internet and try a new recipe or craft or something. Sun, sun, sun!
